The all-new GRIP Idle Management System: flexibility + real-time data for fleet management excellence

The patented autonomous idle-reduction system ensures airbags and other vehicle safety features remain active at all times

March 1, 2018 – The next-generation GRIP Idle Management System is now available, providing unparalleled flexibility and real-time vehicle usage data to help fleet managers reduce and track idling time, fuel consumption, emissions and more, while ensuring operator safety, comfort and convenience.

?Our customers asked for the ability to customize the GRIP settings to fit their needs, and we?ve delivered that flexibility,? said Brian Bassindale, President of Canadian Extreme Climate Systems Inc. and creator of the GRIP Idle Management System. ?The GRIP system is fully customizable to address fleet and operator preferences and requirements, leading to reduced operating costs and optimal vehicle utilization.?

The GRIP?s patented control system also ensures that safety systems – such as airbags, lights, and sirens – remain active when the engine shuts down to reduce idling.

The GRIP is the only source of comprehensive data on vehicle functions and usage, such as how much idling is for climate control for operator comfort. Starting this spring, that data will be available through the industry?s only data management portal for fleet managers, providing unparalleled vehicle operation analytics in real time to inform management decisions and environmental reporting.

The autonomous GRIP system, first introduced in 2012 for light- and heavy-duty vehicles, automatically shuts off the engine after a predetermined amount of idling time when the vehicle is in park or neutral. It works in conjunction with the vehicle?s Controller Area Network (CAN), starting and stopping as required or controlling additional equipment to provide climate control and other operating requirements.

Customers have reduced idle time by as much as 75% and engine operation by as much as 70%, dramatically extending both vehicle life and service and maintenance intervals. One hour of idle reduction for a Ford Explorer, for example, can save approximately 0.7 gallons (2.6L) of fuel and engine wear equivalent to 33 miles (53 km) of driving, extending the life of the vehicle.

At the same time, the GRIP system comes standard with features such as rapid startup upon driver door opening and anti-theft security, making it ideal for police and emergency vehicles.

Other GRIP system advantages:

    • Fully automated, requiring no operator attention or interaction
    • Compatible with all vehicle makes, models and applications
    • Easy to install with universal hardware kits featuring vehicle-specific components and options
    • Dedicated installation and customer support services.
    • Unmatched 5-year warranty

The patented GRIP Idle Management System is the choice of top fleets in North America, including the City of Columbus Fleet Management Division, recognized as No. 1 among leading fleets at the Government Fleet Expo & Conference (2016).
